Indian media: A TRP hungry world

From the Radia tapes in 2010 to the Essar leaks last month, Indian journalism has been creaking under the burden of unethical practices. A new report titled "Untold Stories: How Corruption and Conflicts of Interest Stalk the Newsroom" from the Ethical Journalism Network, an international journalism watchdog, identifies the problems with journalism in 18 counties. It also lists the five main scourges of the Indian media. India’s gargantuan news market has 82,222 newspapers; Delhi alone has 16 English dailies in circulation. It has close to 800 television news channels, an industry that has almost trebled between 2006 and 2014. Added to that are 124 million broadband Internet connections and 1,500 state-owned, privately-owned, and community radio stations.

TRP-Show?

Media is performing a very important role, and no one can deny the fact but it's true that there is a problem with the media at the same time.

Because media create news inaccurate sometimes to gain TRP for their channels. Almost 50% of the public reports having had first-hand knowledge of news events sometimes even though they were not part of that story. They also have a problem that mistakes regularly left uncorrected in editing tasks.

Even now media not focusing on the environmental issues and providing more information on

entertainment issues rather than social issues. Never ever media focus on such topics as global warming, deforestation, soil erosion, water scarcity, etc so there is a great need to aware people of it.

Media is a great source of providing this information to the people but it is ignoring these facts just because of the profit motive and TRP of their channels, they always print, show cast that news where people show their interest and gain TRP.

The news related to most important issues should be on the front page rather than the news of accidents, robbery.

Because of media people are forming their perception for a thing, person, and place. So it is the duty of a journalist to provide the accurate information in a genuine way if they see something good happening in the country, the citizens would definitely appreciate it but if the media always shows how badly the economy is going on, it will definitely have a bad impact on the citizens and also the reputation of the country.
